28th Bathampton Scouts had an action-packed week of camping in Dorset over May half-term.

Scouts, from 10 ½ to 14 years old, camped in their Patrols under canvas, cooked their own meals on wood fires and practiced Scout craft skills led by their Patrol Leaders at an off-grid site deep in the countryside.

The various skills and results of their cooking were judged over the weekend, leading to the Kestrels Patrol winning the coveted Spadger Trophy for camping skills.

Other activities included archery, a Scout Olympics, a sandcastle building competition and a quiz in Swanage as part of the Adventure challenge award. There was an all-day treasure hunt, based on the Apprentice, which involved the Scouts travelling from Wool to Poole.

The Junior Scouts took an all-day hike from Corfe Castle to Swanage across country and along the South West coastal path. The Senior Scouts completed their Expedition challenge award, covering 41 miles while carrying their tents, food and water and navigating from Corfe Castle to Swanage and then on to the Buddens
Scout Campsite, before returning the following day to base camp.

With brilliant weather every day and evenings spent on various beaches, all of the Scouts had an amazing time and are looking forward to their next camp!
