Scouts and Leaders from Bathampton had an action-packed 11-day camp in Jersey and France this summer.

The island location provided plenty of opportunities for adventure. Every day included time on the beach, where the Scouts explored rock pools, built sandcastles and made the most of the sunshine.

They also enjoyed a coastal boat trip around the south-west of Jersey, learning about the island’s history along the way.

Back on land, Scouts and Explorers (aged 11-17) visited the Military Museum, St Catherine’s Bunker and the Tunnels Museum, all providing a fascinating insight into life during the Nazi occupation of the Channel Islands during the Second World War.

There was plenty more to enjoy, with outings to Elizabeth Castle and a local lavender farm. Other highlights included an island-wide quiz, an all-day hike and a mini expedition, which saw the Scouts pack up their kit and spend a night at another campsite on the coast.

The Scouts also took a day trip to Saint-Malo in France. They explored the historic city, enjoyed lunch together and on their return to Jersey, had the chance to see the famous Battle of Flowers carnival floats.

For much of the camp, the Scouts worked in their Patrols. This gave them a fantastic opportunity to work in teams, develop new skills, build confidence and increase their independence. Despite being in the midst of yet another heatwave, they embraced outdoor life, sleeping in hike tents and cooking their meals on Trangias every day.

Above all the Scouts enjoyed spending time outdoors with their friends, working together and creating memories that will last long after the tents have been packed away. Want to get involved in our next adventure? Get in touch!
