Four Young Leaders from Bathampton Scout Group took part in the annual Avon County Winter Challenge, joining other Teams from across Avon. Led by Team Leader Alex, Finn, Ethan and Emily from the WSJ started out at midnight from Shipham in North Somerset, and walked just over 10 miles which included walking around Chew Valley Lake and several extremely boggy footpaths! The Team arrived at Wedmore near Weston Super Mere at about a quarter to eight, in time for bacon sandwiches and successfully managed 4th place.

The annual Avon Scout County Shooting Competition was held at Chelwood on 25th September. Sixty-six Scouts from across North Somerset, Bath, Bristol, and South Gloucestershire took part on the day, including local Scouts from Bathampton and Combe Down. The event was organised by the Avon Scout Rifle Club and supervised by qualified instructors. The competitive activities included archery, field targets, precision shooting, three-position shooting and clay pigeon shooting. Ethan, Tom, Josh and Simon have just returned from an action packed trip to the 22nd World Jamboree in Sweden.  The three Scouts were part of Avonsaurus Contingent made up of 36 Scouts from across Bristol and Bath.  Simon was a member of the International Staff team which helps run the camp. All of them had been selected 18 months ago and then trained for this prestigious event that is only held every four years.

Over the May Bank Holiday, 25 Scouts and their Leaders from Bathampton joined 4000 other Scouts and Guides from across the Avon County for an action packed weekend of activities and fun at the Avon Jamboree which is held every four years at the Woodhouse Park, the County Camp site in Almondsbury.
The top activities were the muddy adventure course, the zorbing, shooting, archery, climbing and sub aqua! The Saturday evening was the highlight of the entertainment with a carnival complete with floats, fireworks, a silent disco and live bands.

Last Saturday was Avon County Scouts Bear Hunt event which featured many famous bears including the Chief Scout – Bear Grylls – visiting Ashton Court and Bristol Docks along with thousands of Scouts from across the County.  Six scouts attended from the 28th, met the Chief Scout and tried out the actitvities at the Bear Hunt, which included water zorbing, inflatables and lots of candy floss!
Not to be outdone by the Scouts, Bathampton Cubs also met Bear at thier District Cub Camp at the Wiltshire Scout camp site in Potterne on Saturday. Bear flew in by helicopter and …

Bath winter Olympic athlete Amy Williams has been presented with a Scout badge to add to her gold medal. The honour has come in the Scout Association’s own birthday honours list – a few months after the 27-year-old was awarded an MBE in the official Queen’s version. The former Hayesfield and Beechen Cliff school pupil, who picked up first place in the skeleton bobsled event at this year’s Winter Olympics, was voted for by Scouts across the country.
